TOUR de LANDER
TOUR de LANDER
Coming OCTOBER 2012
Planning to be in Lander for the annual NOLS State of the School event? Driving into Lander on roads with wide shoulders, smooth pavement, rollers and big climbs and wishing you had your road bike with you? Wondering why it is always 60 degrees with blue skies in early October - except for the occasional blizzard?
Wish and wonder no more. In 2012, get to Lander on Monday October 8th with your bike, be ready to ride on Tuesday morning, and hope the weather holds. Daily from Tuesday to Saturday, Tour de Lander will start from the Pronghorn and cover 30 - 60 miles routes in and around Lander, up AND out of the Sinks on perfectly paved switchbacks. Elevations vary from 6000 to 9000 ft. Not a race; not timed. Done for the simple pleasure of turning over the pedals in a wondrous landscape.
2011 October update: Great weather start to finish. Sunny and temps in the 60s by mid-day. NOLS and Lander repeat TdL notables John Kanengieter, Bruce Palmer, Gary Cukjati and Richard Garrett made the rides memorable. NOLS TdL newcomer Katie Baum Mettenbrink was in peak form in preparation for the Tour de Tucson. Advisory Council member Nancy Leon brought her bike for the 2nd year from Jackson and put in quality miles. In 2012, Q Belk plans to appear, and Ben Toland inquired about FEDEX charges for shipping his bike. 2012 is shaping up to be the best year ever!
